Andrea Bourque, PharmD, has owned Rayne Medicine Shoppe in Rayne, Louisiana for years. She knows her patients. She knows their families. She knows when something is off.
What she didn't always know, until recently, was what was happening between visits.
"A routine RPM check-in flagged a patient whose blood pressure medication hadn't been refilled in months," she said. "Something her doctor's office never caught. That's the call that happens when you have real visibility into what's going on with your patient between visits. It allowed us to offer something additional that made a genuine difference."
That kind of intervention isn't a rare exception in the Medsense network. It's just another Tuesday.
Over the past few months, Medsense's clinical team has recorded more than 130,000 blood pressure readings, including 1,800+ crisis alerts. Roughly 1 in 6 patients had at least one dangerous reading their care team might otherwise never have seen. Whenever these levels are found, the Medsense team works to get them under control with pharmacy counseling.
This monitoring doesn’t just surface numbers. It creates the moments Andrea is describing.
The Medsense medical team works from a daily dashboard sorted by patient criticality. They made 465 clinical calls in a single day. One of those calls was to a patient with a 200/121 blood pressure reading, who had skipped their medication. The Medsense team called immediately, confirmed what had happened, and instructed the patient to take their medication. That's a documented clinical intervention that wouldn't have happened without the program — and might not have surfaced until the next physician visit, months away.
Patients enrolled in Medsense's RTM programs also show roughly 60% better medication adherence within 90 days compared to their pre-enrollment baseline. That's not a product feature. That's the pharmacy becoming indispensable in a patient's life.
"It allowed us to offer something additional that made a genuine difference," Andrea said.
That's the call.
